Roberton Island - New Zealand
Greens
family is a difficult colour, especially in landscape painting where we find
also the blues family interacting with it. And the overuse of bright
greens looks like an amateur painting. At a first look to a photo such as the photo 1 of
the Roberton Island by RR, it seem to be easy to reproduce the nature in all
its splendour but when it comes to harmoniously transfer it on canvas the colour
mix becomes muddy and hence inexpressive. What did I do? Trying something unusual such as
mixing black with yellow to get dark greens, burnet umber with cadmium
yellow light for soft tones and eventually phthalo blue with cadmium yellow
light to get vibrant tones………
